Who we are
The Violence Prevention Forum, founded in 2015, is a platform for dialogue between policymakers, researchers, NGOs, social movements, donors, and representatives of the private sector who have the shared purpose ocreating a South Africa that is violence-free.
Through robust, inclusive dialogue, evidence generation, and sharing, we build a community of connected, networked individuals and institutions with the knowledge, experience, and resources to reduce and prevent violence. Our dialogues facilitate collaboration within and between sectors.
Through respect, empathy, deep democracy, active listening, commitment and courage, collaboration, and partnership; and fun,the forum becomes a loom of transformation, where broken threads are rewoven and sewn into hope, strength, renewal, and ultimately healing.

The VPF is convened by the Institute for Security Studies, which collaborates with partners to arrange meetings, undertake research, produce publications and facilitate dialogue.
Our Driver Group determines its strategic direction and made up of representatives from government, development partners, research institutions, non-governmental organisations, the private sector and donor organisations.
